In the run-up to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, we discussed a possible alchemy between Aprilia and Marco Bezzecchi, and it did indeed take place with the result that we know, so it seems legitimate to use the same approach for the Aragon Grand Prix MotoGP...
Aprilia Racing says it is ready to take on the challenge at the MotorLand Aragón circuit after the Silverstone race, where Marco Bezzecchi won a spectacular victory in the long race. This success brings the Noale-based manufacturer's total to 299 victories in the motorcycle world championship. What are the Noale-based company's achievements in the Spanish desert?
Unfortunately, the last edition of Motorland was catastrophic for Aprilia, which faced a serious grip problem right at the end of free practice. The riders at the time, Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales, had horrible memories of it, one crashing in the Sprint, the other during the GP, and each of the survivors finishing light years behind the winner.
Sprint: Aleix Espargaro did not complete the first lap, Maverick Vinales last at 37 seconds.
GP: Aleix Espargaro 10th, 40 seconds behind, Maverick Vinales retired.
The now Honda test rider summed up the weekend as follows: " horrible, it was a nightmare. Probably the worst race of the last three seasons for everyone at Aprilia. I completely changed bikes, I've never ridden a machine like this, but there has been no change since Saturday. It was difficult to touch the ground with the knee, the tires weren't working at all and it was super slippery »
We are a long way from Silverstone...
On the side of Marco Bezzecchi, it wasn't great either, qualifying 13th before finishing the Sprint 10th, 20 seconds behind, and the GP 7th, 24 seconds behind a perfect Marc Marquez that weekend.
Under these conditions, if Marco Bezzecchi goes to MotorLand Aragón with the aim of reconfirming its competitiveness after winning the long race at Silverstone and taking fourth place in the sprint race, the alchemy achieved at Silverstone seems, at least on paper, difficult to repeat, despite the momentum brought by the British victory, especially since the only podium obtained by the Rimini native, on the modern circuit located in Alcañiz, dates back to 2018, in Moto3. We hope to be wrong for the deserving Aprilia team prey to the actions of its leader…
This 2nd place had been acquired behind a George Martin who was recently examined by Dr. Xavier Mir and Dr. Angel Charte for medical follow-up. At the chest level, the rib fractures are following their physiological evolution. Jorge Martín underwent a clinical examination and a CT scan of the chest and wrist. The clinical result is quite positive, as the distal radius fracture has healed. The scaphoid fracture line is still visible, and further electromagnetic therapies should be considered intensively. A new medical check-up will be carried out in a month. As for the rest…
Marco Bezzecchi: “We are coming out of a positive period and we must build on it, continuing to work with the same enthusiasm as before. Aragon is a fantastic circuit that I really like, so I am looking forward to it. After Silverstone, we are motivated and confident. It will certainly be interesting to see what we are capable of doing, but my commitment and that of everyone else is still very strong.”
