Toprak Razgatlioglu will discover the Assen circuit, but this time in MotoGP. He knows the track well, as it's also a staple of the Superbike championship, a category in which he is a three-time champion. But this season is different. Toprak is struggling, and not just a little, so much so that he's starting to lose patience. The Yamaha project will take time to rise from the ashes, and Toprak, who was used to playing at the very front in his previous life, has to settle for less than honorable positions.
"El Turco" spoke ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, an unmissable event for any driver. MotoGP. "Assen is a circuit I know well thanks to my Superbike career, but riding here in MotoGP will be a completely different experience." he declared.
Strangely, he only has two career wins at Assen, which is quite meager considering his impressive record. Furthermore, he will have to approach it with the new style he is trying to adopt. "The biggest challenge is adapting my riding style, because I sometimes still have the reflex to ride like in Superbike, with a jerky approach, whereas MotoGP requires something else. Race after race, I understand the motorcycle better and I learn to master the riding style that my motorcycle requires.I feel more confident on the motorcycle, and when braking and cornering, everything feels more natural. There's still a lot to learn. But my feelings are improving weekend by weekend." he added.
Well, it has to be said that the equipment he's using doesn't allow him, and probably won't allow him, to shine this year. He assures us that Yamaha is doing everything possible. "We continue to work hard on the areas for improvement, and I am convinced that we can take another step forward. If we succeed, it could make all the difference to our competitiveness. Assen is a special circuit that I really enjoy. The whole team is motivated, and I'm eager to see what we can achieve this weekend. he concluded.
