MotoGP: Bagnaia isn't earning enough to make headlines anymore... so he says he's found another method at Ducati!

Pecco Bagnaia makes light of his criticism of Ducati. Behind the joke lies a difficult season and an impending farewell.

Pecco Bagnaia has found an unexpected way to comment on his own crisis: by joking that it at least gives him a platform in the media. While his results no longer allow him to regularly occupy the spotlight, the two-time MotoGP world champion is amused by the attention his criticisms of Ducati are receiving. A mischievous remark, just as his time with the Italian manufacturer is drawing to a close.

Bagnaia: “ I can't get attention for my good results. »

“ I can’t get the media to talk about me because of my good results ,” he admits. The remark is harsh, especially since he’s applying it to himself. Bagnaia , once the embodiment of Ducati’s successes , humorously acknowledges that performance alone is no longer enough to generate headlines around his name.

He continued: “ So I looked for another way, and this was a good way to achieve it .” Before driving the point home: “ It’s still being talked about a lot, so it worked .” The statement sounds like a strategic confession. But it’s primarily a joke: there’s no evidence to suggest that he deliberately criticized Ducati to create controversy and thus maintain media attention…

Since Marquez, even Pecco's criticisms have taken on a new dimension.

Since Marc Marquez joined the factory team, the landscape has changed. Observers' attention is naturally focused on the Spaniard's results, while Bagnaia is trying to rediscover the form that allowed him to compete at the highest level.

The comparison is all the more painful because it takes place in the same garage. Two champions, one brand, but now very different sporting trajectories. Under these circumstances, every statement Pecco makes about his bike, his adaptation, or his difficulties takes on an added dimension.

What would once have been a technical remark easily becomes an episode in the Ducati soap opera . And it's precisely this mechanism that the Italian seems to be mocking. Since his words are interpreted as criticism, he might as well joke about the audience they generate.

Self-deprecation allows him to defuse tension without ignoring the underlying issues. His difficulties remain real, as does the gap between his ambitions and the results achieved.

One last pirouette before leaving Ducati?

The context makes this sequence even more interesting. Bagnaia is preparing to close his Ducati chapter and continue his career with Aprilia in 2027. It is no longer just a question of saving a season: he also has to end a collaboration that brought him two MotoGP world titles , but whose last months have been far less happy.

His joke can therefore be interpreted as a way of regaining control of his image. Rather than endlessly enduring questions about his declining health, he chooses to laugh at it himself.

This is neither a final settling of scores nor a reconciliation with Ducati . Simply an elegant, and slightly provocative, way of reminding everyone that he is perfectly aware of the rumors circulating about him.

So, what do we remember?

  • Bagnaia makes fun of his own media exposure, without claiming that his criticisms were actually premeditated.
  • Marquez's arrival changed the sporting and media balance of the Ducati garage.
  • As his departure for Aprilia approaches, the Italian transforms a difficult situation into an opportunity to smile.

Pecco may no longer be in control of the results as he would like. But he has just demonstrated that he still has one thing left: a sharp wit. And for once, he can claim an undeniable victory: his little quip has indeed generated a lot of buzz.
