Raúl Fernández is very weakened in Brno due to an appendicitis attack, but still managed to get into Q2.
Raul Fernandez He started the Czech Republic Grand Prix far from being at 100% physically. One might have thought this was due to the violent crash he suffered ten days ago during the multiple collisions in the first corner of the GP, but that wasn't the case. While he was suffering from a leg injury then, he hoped to be fully recovered for this weekend, and that seems to be the case.
The Spanish driver, however, arrived weakened by an attack of appendicitis, which began the day before yesterday and required a hospital stay. Doctors determined he didn't need surgery and gave him the green light to race, but his day was far from easy.
Lacking energy and still suffering, he admits to having done the bare minimum to get into Q2, and hopes to be able to do the sprint race tomorrow.

“First of all, I feel lucky to be here today because on Wednesday and Thursday, I was in the hospital for a lot of tests. When I arrived here on Wednesday, I had stomach pain and went to the health center. I was diagnosed with appendicitis and went straight to the hospital for tests to determine if I needed an operation, because I wasn’t feeling well. I didn’t eat or drink much during that time, and on Thursday, I had to have more tests.”, he explained.
“There’s significant inflammation, but I didn’t need surgery, so I was lucky. I don’t have much energy right now and I’m happy to be on the bike, but there’s not much to say about my day. I tried to play it safe and managed to finish in the top ten. I attempted five laps in a row; it was difficult, and I think I need to rest well now and eat well because I need more energy for the race.”
