The MotoGP world has been rocked by a rumor as unexpected as it is surprising: Lewis Hamilton, seven-time Formula 1 world champion, is about to buy the KTM teams? While this news caused a stir, it quickly turned out to be a house of cards.

During the Formula 1 weekend in Abu Dhabi, an unexpected rumor shook the paddocks: Lewis Hamilton, seven-time F1 world champion, is reportedly interested in acquiring the MotoGP teams of KTM, including Red Bull KTM Factory Racing et Tech3. However, the facts show that this story seems to be more of a fantasy than a real project.

KTM is currently facing serious financial challenges, including a liability of 1,8 billion euros and staff reductions. With production suspended for two months in early 2025, some have speculated that it will need to find an external investor to maintain its two MotoGP teams, which have an estimated annual budget of 40 million euros. It is in this context that the rumor of the involvement of Lewis Hamilton emerged.

However, several crucial elements make this hypothesis very unlikely. Thus, KTM is tied to Dorna for MotoGP until 2026 and Tech3 for two more years. After that, KTM benefits from a solid partnership with Red Bull, its main sponsor until 2025. For its part, Hamilton is under contract with Monster Energy, Red Bull's direct competitor. With the Sepang tests scheduled for February, the schedule is too tight to conclude such an operation. Finally, in the event of financial problems, Dorna would take over the places on the grid, without a direct transfer to a new investor.

KTM shocked but not shaken by Hamilton rumour

Hervé Poncharal, Director of Tech3, called this rumor " totally unfounded ": " There is not an ounce of truth in these statements. And I suppose that applies to the factory team as well.. » Another frame of KTM added with surprise: " We read the story of Hamilton with amazement! »

Despite persistent rumors, KTM continues to actively prepare for the season MotoGP 2025. The costs for testing and the first races are already covered, and the teams are ready to face a new season. Hervé Poncharal concluded with determination: " we are ready for the 2025 season, shining in orange »

Despite the media storm, the facts clearly show that Lewis Hamilton has no intention of buying back KTM. If the F1 legend were to ever join MotoGP, it would likely be in a very different role. For now, KTM remains focused on his future in MotoGP, without the shadow of a buyout.
