Aleix Espargaró : “First of all, I am very sorry and I want to apologize to Morbidelli, because my accident cost him a lot of places, as well as to my team, because the Grand Prix is very important here in Italy, and a fall is, of course, not good. But precisely because I was only in 16th position on the grid, I knew that the first phase of the race was very, very important. I got off to a very good start and was already in the top 10 from the second sector. VSGiven our performance compared to the others, we could have finished much better. I knew I had to give it my all from the first laps. My pace was very good but, starting from so far away, I had to take risks. The difficulty in overtaking is our weak point and this makes it difficult to come back up. It's a shame because I still managed to get into the top 10 and I felt really good. This fall was not what we needed. »
Next week, Aleix Espargaró will race at home at the Catalunya – Barcelona circuit, a few hundred meters from his birthplace.
“I have no expectations. It's like that. I have the motorcycle that I have. I will try to finish the race, because it is very important. For me it is a special Grand Prix, and I will do my best. The results suck, but I have a feeling we're closer than ever. I'm faster than ever. But you have to overtake to prove it, and finish the race. We have the speed, but we can't overtake, and I have to risk more than the others to compensate for the lack of acceleration. Barcelona is a track where you don't necessarily need super strong accelerations because the track is a bit faster than at Misano. »
Aleix Espargaró is currently 17th in the championship, with 18 points.
