Recently crowned Moto3 World Champion David Alonso is already preparing for his next challenge: moving up to Moto2 with the CFMOTO Aspar team in 2025. The talented young rider has already made waves in the Grand Prix field, but according to former LCR Honda sporting director Oscar Haro, the move to the Moto2 class is a complex step that will require patience and adaptation.
Haro, who shared his thoughts on Nico Abad's podcast, highlighted the unique nature of Moto2: " Moto2 is very complicated; we have seen riders like Sandro Cortese and Julian Simon get lost. This is a category with a lot of mechanical parity.. Driving skill is crucial as there is very little electronic assistance… and the engine power is quite difficult to control, so It must be approached with caution and learning. »
En Moto2, the trajectory is different from that followed by young pilots through the junior categories. Alonso, like other talented riders, has progressed through the ranks in a structured manner, with experiences in Pre-Moto3 and in competitions such as the Talent Cup and the Red Bull Rookies Cup. However, according to Haro, this Moto3 training does not fully prepare him for the demanding world of Moto2.
« David Alonso is an 18-year-old who is used to winning, but he will have to be patient and focus on learning. »
« Moto2 is a whole other world, » Haro continues on motorcyclesports. " The braking points, the way to lift the bike quickly, to accelerate, to know how to manage the slide, everything changes. It is a bike that is much closer to MotoGP than to Moto3. If we rush, we risk getting lost along the way. »
To Alonso, who has demonstrated remarkable talent in Moto3, the biggest challenge will therefore be to adapt to this new environment, without getting carried away by impatience. Haro sums it up like this: " He's an 18-year-old who's used to winning, but he's going to have to be patient and focus on learning. »
Alonso has a crucial stage in its development ahead of it. It is ready to face this new challenge, and the world of Moto2 waiting to see if he will manage to take on this stage with the same brilliance that took him to the top of the Moto3.
