Maverick Vinales Jerez

Maverick Viñales showed his speed again on the second day of the Spanish GP, finishing once again as the top KTM rider.

After his performance at the Qatar Grand Prix, Maverick Vinales has continued to confirm his pace on the Jerez circuit this weekend, finishing at the top of the timesheet each time. If he had to go through Q1 due to his 14th position in Practice yesterday, it is only due to a technical problem which immobilized him on the track during the final time attack. As of this morning's FP2, the Spaniard was in fact second in the standings, just behind Marc Márquez.

Unsurprisingly, he finished first in Q1 and thus secured his place in Q2, where he secured sixth place and equaled his best qualifying performance with KTM, which had been set two weeks ago in Qatar. He started from the second row for the sprint race, but encountered more difficulties due to the intense heat on this Andalusian afternoon.

Casa Particular in Viñales spent most of the race in seventh place and, despite catching up with Fabio Di Giannantonio, he held onto his position at the checkered flag. He thus achieved his best result of the season in the sprint race, and finished as the best KTM representative once again.

“It was a really positive day for us, especially this morning because I found a feeling I love on the bike. The balance between the front and rear was really good, and the rear was particularly good coming out of corners.”, did he declare.

“In the sprint race, things were a little more difficult. The grip wasn't great, and I struggled a little more with the front of the bike. I was sliding a little sideways going into the corners, so I couldn't be as competitive as I was this morning. We're still happy. I caught Di Giannantonio towards the end, and maybe with more laps I could have done more. So it was a positive day for us, and we'll keep working.”
