At 11 a.m., the Moto3s benefit from almost ideal conditions to compete in this Italian Grand Prix contested over 20 laps; immaculate sky, 23° in the air and 35 on the track.
When the red lights go out, Romano fenati maintains its pole position advantage, starting from a front row also made up of Migno and Pawi, while Brad Binder also makes a good start.
No fall to report in this first lap which concludes with a straight line in which everything is called into question thanks to the suction phenomenon.
It is therefore impossible to recount the countless changes of leader of a still compact peloton. However, we note that Fenati, Migno, Navarro, Binder, Bagnaia, Migno and Fenati are constantly at the forefront…
fabio quartararo, who started from 18th position, manages to gradually move up to 9th position in a long group but without any real break, from first to 26th...
For some unknown reason, Alexis Masbou returns to his pit after 5 laps. Two rounds later, Darryn Binder goes first to make a mistake at turn #8.
One lap later, back from provisional 9th place, Fabio Quartararo takes charge of operations, which shows that everything can change very quickly in the game of aspirations. His strategy of fine-tuning his bike without looking for the time during testing seems to be paying off; this one seems to work very well… (see interview)
A little before halfway, Romano Fenati is forced to retire on mechanical problem; big disappointment for the poleman at home!
At mid-race, the situation has hardly changed and it is impossible to make the slightest prediction as to which trio will be on the podium in a few minutes...
However, this will not be Jorge Navarro falling at turn #15, completely expelled by Juanfran Guevara. Same fate for Andrea Locatelli at turn #2 a few moments later.
In the lead, it's the turn of Nicholas Bulega, then Lorenzo Dalla Porta, to direct operations very provisionally; There are 6 laps left to think about the best strategy to use during the last loop... it's getting hot under the helmets!
Brad Binder and Fabio Quartararo appear to be doing “last lap” simulations to see if coming out ahead of the last corner allows you to cross the line as the winner…
The Rookie Fabio Di Giannantoni (penalized by 4 places on the grid) temporarily takes the lead but the KTM of Fabio Quartararo seems particularly effective today; the French driver takes back command two laps from the checkered flag…
The start of the last lap sees Binder, Bagnaia, Quartararo fight like rags but the South African driver manages to open up a small gap which he maintains until the finish line. Behind, Pawi and Canet fall while Di Giannantoni and Bagnaia pull the chestnuts out of the fire aspirations, ahead of Antonelli who started 22nd.
French side, Fabio Quartararo finished in an excellent 5th position and Jules Danilo 11th. The two drivers really had a great race, after lackluster testing.
In the end, it came down to the best Moto3 race since the start of the season!
