During the first morning session, Dovizioso obtained a good fourth position behind the three untouchables Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez. He was clearly first among the Ducatis with seven tenths ahead of Scott Redding, ninth, and Andrea Iannone, tenth.

He finished fifth in the second session, still the fastest of the Desmosedici drivers, but this time ahead of Lorenzo, Marquez, Vinales and Pol Espargaro. If his delay on the leader Lorenzo amounted to six tenths, he was on the other hand only three tenths behind the third Maverick Vinales who then appeared on the first row of the virtual starting grid.

If he manages to get his Ducati running the way he wants, Andrea Dovizioso should be able to achieve a good qualifying. According to him, “It is certain that we have taken a big step forward from this morning. We have improved a lot and therefore I am completely satisfied. Here in Valencia, however, we struggle a bit because the bike doesn't turn as I would like and as I have to increase the lean angle to make it turn, in the end the tire is put under more stress and I'm losing grip. We are working on this aspect and, although at the moment we are half a second behind the leaders, our race pace is quite good.”
