It was 22 degrees in the air and 28 degrees on the track when the drivers set off for the first free practice session of this Grand Prix. Ayumu Sasaki (Petronas Sprinta Racing) is the first to enter the track, and John Mcphee (CIP – Green Power) the first to set the reference time in 1'40.393. For his part, Jorge Martín (Del Conca Gresini) performs his opening lap and then returns to the pits on the next lap to have his clutch lever modified.
Ten minutes into the session, he hasn't come out yet. In terms of times, he's the rookie Jaume Masia (Bester Capital Dubai) which is in the lead. Arriving last year as a wild card on this circuit, he had an incredible performance, and it is therefore not surprising to see him in the lead. He precedes the leader of the Championship Marco Bezzecchi (PruestlGP), Tony Arbolino (Marinelli Snipers Team), John Mcphee et Albert Arenas (Angel Nieto Team Moto3). Behind, Martín springs and comes to place twenty-eighth at 1,8 seconds.

At mid-session, it was the Scotsman John Mcphee who led the session in front of his teammates Enea Bastianini et Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Leopard Racing), Aron Canet et Jaume Masià. In the final minutes, he and the young Masià will alternate in the lead. For his part, Martín moved up to nineteenth, 1,4 seconds behind, and finished the session in twenty-second position. Canet made a mistake in turn 6 on his last flying lap. In front, it's finally the rookie Jaume Masia who has the last word and thus achieves an excellent performance.
