MotoAmerica is already in the sixth round of its season. For the occasion, the Superbike drivers will perform on the legendary Laguna Seca circuit, known to the automotive world for annually hosting the IndyCar championship, and to the Motorcycle world championships for having hosted the United States Grand Prix.
Race 2:
At the end of a competitive weekend, Josh Herrin won Superbike Race 2 at Laguna Seca. Taking the lead after four laps of the test, the Ducati rider did not let go of the controls throughout the twenty laps of the test. A task far from easy since his competitors have in turn put pressure on the latter. He thus signs his third success of the season, and extends his lead in the championship, while he took the lead yesterday, after the first round of the weekend.
The pole sitter, Cameron Beaubier held his own against the attacks of his competitors on the last lap, and finished the event in second position. Six weeks after a broken foot, the results of the BMW driver's weekend are more than positive.
Rookie Sean Dylan Kelly overtook Beaubier on the last lap, before veering wide. He finally finished in an excellent third position, four tenths behind his opponent of the day.
Bobby Fong gave everything to catch up with the leaders, but fell short of the podium. Before the checkered flag, he was still less than a second behind Josh Herrin. Jake Gagne rode a solo race, finishing fifth.
Loris Baz finished a complicated weekend in sixth position. He never really threatened to do better, and finished like the day before, behind Jake Gagne.
Gagne's teammate Cameron Petersen battled for the lead in the opening laps but was forced to retire from the event due to mechanical issues on his Yamaha.
Josh Herrin, winner in Race 2 at Laguna Seca:
“Who knows how it would have ended with Sean (Dylan Kelly). He couldn't just calm down and think about where he wanted to pass me because he also had to think about who is behind him. So that probably helped me a little. I could hear it at every turn. I did my best on the last lap to protect the lines, but also not to make the mistake of overprotecting and losing the front. I obviously don't know what happened behind me, but obviously it worked. I'm just super happy because it's huge for the championship. We have come a long way. The team really deserves it. We talked about it yesterday. It's been 30 years since Ducati won a championship. It just motivated me, especially because (Eraldo) Ferracci is there. We have three rounds left, which seems crazy. Just a big thank you to the whole team. It was just an incredible weekend. I am very happy. »
