Fourth this morning during the first session of the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring, Alex Marquez finally finished this Friday in 9th position, thus avoiding a still uncertain passage into Q1.
But the Gresini team driver could undoubtedly have done better, if he had not crashed at the very end of P2, just after his teammate and two turns further. A loss of control that he attributes above all to his front tire behaving strangely…
Alex Marquez : " The day was positive overall. I mean, I made a mistake on the last lap going pretty close to pole, but overall, like I said, it wasn't bad. I felt good, confident with the bike and everything was going well since FP1. I just made this mistake because the front tire, the medium, was a bit strange in this case. It was a tire that we always used in the past, but since Misano, more or less no one can use it. Michelin therefore says no, that nothing has changed, but it's a bit strange, we don't have a feeling, as if the tire were rigid, and it's very easy to make a mistake. If this happened season to season I could understand, but not in the middle of a season. There were many races like this last year. They're trying to investigate and all that, but they've been here like this before, and nothing's changed. It's very strange. The sweet spot for tomorrow will be when it's really warm and we can ride all day. It will be ideal, but not for us, for everyone »
Asked about the absence of a long straight line which could restrict the Ducati, number 73 is reassuring.
« There is less difference than in Mugello: Obviously we don't have this advantage, but we don't have any big problems. We still need to put a few things in place, but it's really good and, as always, everything is coming together in a good way for a ride, and it's nice to ride the Ducati here too. We are in Q2, so we have achieved our objective. »
