He is leaving to join the Gresini team at the end of the year, Joan mir has half a season left to improve some of his statistics, and the German Grand Prix MotoGP seems to be an opportunity.
Midway through the season, the World Championship stops at one of the most atypical circuits on the calendar, the Sachsenring, unlike any other track in the championship, measuring just 3,67 km in length and featuring a 30-lap race. Its longest straight is only 700 meters, making the German circuit a true test of grip at lean angles, cornering speed, and stability. On this narrow and technical track, grid position will once again be crucial to avoid over-enthusiastic attacks in the first corner when the lights go out on Saturday and Sunday.
In 2025, Johann zarco had placed the Honda RC213V on the front row of the grid for a German Grand Prix ultimately marked by numerous twists and turns. And it is precisely the Frenchman who, although still absent due to his injury, is the target for the Mallorcan, who still has 8 points in the overall standings. In a sea of crashes and DNFs, 5th place is the goal of Joan mir Brno is like an oasis in the desert, or even a mirage since it was not approached at the following Grand Prix, in Assen.
Last of the Honda riders, in 18th place in the championship and already with 14 crashes before even reaching the halfway point of the season, the fiery number 36 must at least surpass John Zarco, before his return was mentioned in September!
There's a glimmer of hope: the progress made at Assen in the few tight corners of the Dutch circuit. Will this be enough to translate the speed often demonstrated by the 2020 world champion into points?
Joan Mir: “We’re arriving with the same mindset as in many previous races: fresh and ready to tackle the weekend with full intensity. The Sachsenring is a truly unique circuit, where you spend a huge amount of time at lean angle, pushing the tires to their maximum grip. So we need to work on improving our feel for those conditions. At Assen, we managed to be more competitive in some of the slower, more technical sections of the circuit, and I hope that will put us in a good position for this weekend. Then there will be a few weeks off, which will be welcome to recharge our batteries a bit.”
