Ai Ogura, the most recent winner in MotoGPHe's an enigma for many observers in the paddock. He doesn't talk much, trains differently… and yet, it works! The Japanese rider has simply been one of the best in the world since the start of this season, and impresses with his consistency in every race. Clearly, he's dangerous, and even very close to the top of the overall standings. If the Aprilia factory riders continue to squander important opportunities, a certain Trackhouse rider could very well seize the opportunity.
No one knows him better than Norman Rank, his German chief mechanic who has been with him since Moto2. He has been Ogura's mentor for almost ten years, and today he speaks about his protégé. « Ai has his own plan. In his first year, his goal was to consistently finish in the top 10. In his second year, he focused on podiums and wins, and that's exactly what he's doing now. » he declared for speedweek.
Apparently, his distinctive style leaves no one indifferent. “Ai doesn’t ride his motorcycle with brute force, but with skill. To my knowledge, Ai has never complained of forearm cramps. He always says that he learns the most by riding motorcycles. That’s why he owns half a dozen motorcycles at home that he uses regularly, and he also practices on 1000cc motorcycles.” He only goes to the gym when absolutely necessary. At Trackhouse, this was initially a problem. Some young pilots look like boxers or MMA fighters. But those muscles also need oxygen. he added.
Thus, his physique could be an advantage. In any case, his method seems to be working because Ogura is one of the best in hot conditionsas he had proven during his very first Grand Prix in Thailand last year, or less than two weeks ago in Assen.
Do you think Ai Ogura could actually be in the running for the title? Tell us in the comments!
