Acosta Brno

When it rains, it pours. During the Sprint at Brno, KTM factory rider Pedro Acosta suffered yet another technical problem on his RC16, sending him straight into the gravel after just a few laps. The Austrian manufacturer has been plagued by unreliability this season; it's worth remembering that the horrific crash in Barcelona was caused by an engine failure on Acosta's bike. Just yesterday, the KTM had a problem, but today, it's the Ride Height Virgin which he lacked.

Pedro Acosta recounts in detail the breakdown and then the fall. « It was a rather silly fall.We had a technical problem with the device; it kept getting stuck at the bottom, and I had to find a way to unblock it. When I tried to lift it, it fell back down and I fell. It started right from the first lap. I was already scraping the wings. There were straights where I managed to get it unblocked, like the finish straight, but it would lock up again and it just kept getting more complicated. When this kind of thing happens in the corners, where it shouldn't, it's very difficult to manage. In the end, we were riding normally all weekend and suddenly, the motorcycle came down" he told the press.

He must be furious, because there was a real opportunity to be seized given Marco Bezzecchi's crash a few laps later. It's a shame, because after Martín overtook me, I was catching up to Bezzecchi. I might not have had the pace to fight for the podium, because the Aprilias are very competitive, but I had the pace to fight for the top 5, which is our goal. » he added.

This avalanche of technical problems is hardly reassuring, to say the least. Pedro Acosta knows the situation is delicate. « These are things that are beyond my control. We need to analyze the data, understand the causes of these problems, and correct them. Ultimately, it's sport, and these kinds of incidents can happen, but if we want to fight for something, even if we're far behind, these kinds of things shouldn't happen. We now need to understand why this happened and how to fix it. » he concluded.
