David Alonso stands out as a serious contender for the Moto3 title this season. Halfway through the year, his performances have been spectacular, putting him at the top of the championship with a comfortable lead. To be honest, he doesn't go unnoticed in the paddock...
David Alonso, Colombian driver of the team CFMoto Aspar, made an impression during the first part of the season. Out of the first nine races, he won six times, only missed the top five once and accumulated four pole positions. This impressive performance allowed him to collect 179 points, well ahead of his closest rival, Ivan Ortola of the MT Helmets-MSi/KTM team, which has 121 points.
The performance ofAlonso surpass those of many past champions, including Peter Acosta, who had won four wins in the first nine races in his rookie season in 2021. Interestingly, Alonso is in his second season, which adds an extra dimension to his accomplishments.
David Alonso is the first rider in Moto3 history to score six wins in the first nine rounds of a season
Since the creation of the Moto3 category in 2012, no driver only managed to achieve six victories in the first nine rounds of a season. David Alonso therefore stands out not only for its results, but also for its ability to dominate a category which has seen talents such as Alex Marquez, Brad Binder, Fabio Quartararo, Francesco Bagnaia, Joan Mir, Jorge Martin et Maverick Vinales.
Although the departure ofAlonso is impressive, the path to the title is still strewn with pitfalls. With nine Grands Prix remaining, the title is not yet assured. Alonso must maintain current form and continue to perform regularly while avoiding injuries.
In addition, his team, Asparagus, has a lot of experience, which could work in his favor to tackle the remaining challenges of the season. The next goal for Alonso is to continue its momentum from British Grand Prix at the beginning of August and which will launch the last part of this season.
David Alonso had an exceptional first part of the season in Moto3, even surpassing the performances of previous champions. However, he still has nine races to go, and the title is far from guaranteed. By maintaining performance and avoiding obstacles, Alonso could well become this year's Moto3 champion, marking a new page in the history of the category.
