In the margins of official releaseCarlos Ezpeleta (MotoGP Chief Sporting Officer) and Paolo Pavesio (Managing Director Yamaha Motyor Racing) shed light on the future Moto3 category of Grand Prix at Assen by answering all the journalists' questions.

Goodbye to the 250cc single-cylinder KTM and Honda engines with around sixty horsepower, and welcome to the twin-cylinder engine derived from the R7 of Iwata, with 700cc engines, developing more than 95 horsepower!

The main points of this announcement are visible in this video presentation, but Carlos Ezpeleta et Paolo Pavesio They highlighted some interesting points.

– The agreement will begin in 2028 for the World Championship.
– It will be introduced in 2029 in the JuniorGP and the MotoJunior championship.
– It will cover a minimum period of six years for each of these championships. It will therefore start one year later for MotoJunior and will also end one year later.
– The ambition is then to gradually extend this concept to several regional championships around the world so that young riders can access the World Championship directly without having to go through a specific championship like MotoJunior.

– Regarding the motorcycle itself, the essential point was that it remain a true lightweight prototype.
– Details will be revealed later, but the targeted performance will be superior to that of the current Moto3.
– Dynamic behavior is expected around 120 kg for a power greater than 95 horsepower in the Grand Prix version.
– A Junior version, slightly less powerful and more affordable, is also planned, intended for the various training championships around the world.
– The goal is to bring costs down to approximately 50% of those in the current Moto3.

– This is not a production motorcycle modified for racing. The engine does indeed come from a production model, but, as you can see in the video, it will be extensively modified.
We will reduce its weight considerably, notably through the extensive use of magnesium. The color of some parts in the video already hinted at this.
– The power will be increased.
– It will have a genuine racing gearbox.
– In reality, the engine is the only part from a production motorcycle. Everything else is a true prototype. The frame, the swingarm, the entire chassis… everything is designed like a real Grand Prix machine.

Tests will take place in the coming months, and the official presentation of the motorcycle will take place during 2027. From that moment on, everyone will be able to discover the machine in its final version before its arrival in the World Championship in 2028.
