We relayed the relief of Christophe Ponsson about his Shark helmet which literally saved his life after a heavy fall during private tests on the Lédenon track. But if the head was saved, the accident was still serious enough to hit the back of the Yamaha R1 rider.

Christophe Ponsson is looking forward to a busy season with a Yamaha R1 which he will lead in both the French FSBK Championship, the EWC World Endurance Championship and the RFME (Spain). During a test in Lédenon, the Frenchman fell heavily. His Shark helmet cushioned the frontal impact with the motorcycle. A piece of the rear buckle got stuck in the helmet. The bike hit the wall before coming back into the path of the rider who collided head-first with the bike.

But when he got up, the tricolor also felt his back. Feeling blocked and compressed, Christophe feared a fracture to a vertebra. A feeling unfortunately confirmed. After an MRI, three fractured vertebrae were diagnosed. A situation which had not first been seen by the Nîmes hospital.

Christophe Ponsson will have a scintigraphy and only then will we be able to find out about his unavailability. However, it is now certain that Christophe will not be able to participate in the first round of the French Superbike Championship at Le Mans at the end of March, the 24 hours of Le Mans and the first round of RFME Superbike in Valencia scheduled for April 21, 22 and 23.
