To know who has every chance of shining in the Moto3 World Championship, you usually just need to look at who has done it in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup or the FIM CEV Repsol Junior Moto3 World Championship…
And this year, getting an idea is relatively easy since Carlos Tatay, 16 years old, after winning the first, has just climbed to second place in the second ranking.
The future is never written in advance, but we can sometimes have an idea of it...
Moto3 Race 1: Conditions were perfect on Sunday morning at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit, with completely clear skies and an ambient temperature of 25° and 28° on the ground.
When the red lights go out, Vicente Pérez (MIR, Cuna de Campeones) starts best from second place on the grid but cannot overtake Carlos Tatay (KTM, Fundación Andreas Pérez 77) who retains the advantage of his pole position.
Jeremy Alcove (Husqvarna, Laglisse Academy) quickly took second place while, from the peloton which was starting to lengthen, a group of eight riders broke away.
Adrian Fernandez (Husqvarna, Laglisse Academy), who occupied fifth position, fell in the third lap while Carlos Tatay et Jeremy Alcoba manage to get a few steps ahead.
Xavier Artigas (Honda, Leopard Impala Junior Team) reacts and returns to the two men, taking with him Mario Suryo Aji (Honda, Astra Honda Racing Team) and Peter Acosta (KTM, Fundación Andreas Pérez 77) before the Indonesian made a mistake on the fifth lap.
Peter Acosta is also struggling to keep up and there are now three who can challenge for victory.
At the halfway mark, Carlos Tatay seems to be in control of the situation and maintains an advantage of a few lengths in front of his two opponents.
From there, the gaps will only increase and the suspense shifts to the fight of the ragpickers for fourth place...
In the end, the winner of the 2020 edition of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup crossed the finish line almost eight seconds ahead of the duo Jeremy Alcoba – Xavier Artigas who, by dint of wanting to let the other pass before the last lap, were caught by Peter Acosta et Ryusei Yamanaka (Honda, Junior Team Estrella Galicia 0,0) escaped from the peloton.
Moto3 Race 2:
With temperatures of 33° in the air and 41° on the ground, lhe conditions had deteriorated a little for this second Moto3 race on the Jerez de la Frontera circuit last Sunday, but all the lights are nevertheless green for Carlos Tatay (KTM, Fundación Andreas Pérez 77) who, in addition to his recent title in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, won the first race in the morning by starting from pole position…
The young 16-year-old Spaniard had already secured a victory in Barcelona and was in 4th place in the championship after that won in the morning in Jerez, behind Jeremy Alcove (Husqvarna, Laglisse Academy) who demonstrates remarkable regularity (worst result 6th this year), Xavier Artigas (Honda, Leopard Impala Junior Team, worst result 7th this year) and Barry Baltus (KTM, Sama Global Angel Nieto Team).
When the red lights go out, Carlos Tatay maintains the advantage of its pole position in front Vicente Pérez (MIR, Cuna de Campeones) and Jeremy Alcove (Husqvarna, Laglisse Academy).
The latter took second position during a first lap which took place without incident. Behind the three aforementioned drivers, we then find Mario Suryo Aji (Honda, Astra Honda Racing Team), Ryusei Yamanaka (Honda, Junior Team Estrella Galicia 0,0) and Barry Baltus (KTM, Sama Global Ángel Nieto Team) already a second away.
These six drivers manage to stand out slightly in front of a 2nd group made up of seven riders.
In subsequent rounds, Ryusei Yamanaka is particularly fast and moves up to third position. The three leading men then managed to gain a few steps ahead of a particularly stretched peloton led by Barry Baltus, and within which we notice the beautiful rise of Deniz Oncu (KTM, Red Bull KTM Ajo), started 15th.
11 laps from the checkered flag, Jeremy Alcove takes the lead at the end of the straight before giving it back a few turns further. Carlos Tatay et Jeremy Alcove then hesitate to serve as a hare and Ryusei Yamanaka signals them to move because the peloton is getting dangerously close... We look at each other, we turn around, then Carlos Tatay decides to accelerate while Deniz Oncu took the lead of the hunting group.
Thanks to this effort from number 99, the gap between the leading trio and the peloton increased to almost three seconds at the halfway mark.
Barry Baltus, who was in the leading group of the chasing pack, made a mistake 7 laps from the finish. The Belgian driver thus lost his third place in the championship.
At the top, the order has hardly changed for around ten laps: Tatay, Alcoba, Yamanaka while Deniz Oncu managed to escape from the peloton and set off in pursuit of the trio.
Carlos Tatay increases the pace four laps from the finish and manages to get rid of his two friends while Ryusei Yamanaka managed to temporarily gain the advantage over Jeremy Alcove two rounds later.
It is therefore solo that the Valencia driver once again crosses the finish line in the lead, while second place is disputed to a thousandth of a second between Ryusei Yamanaka et Jeremy Alcove !
Deniz Oncu also finished alone, six seconds from the podium but four seconds ahead of the peloton.
In the championship, Carlos Tatay logically makes a good deal and is positioned in second position, 37 points behind Jeremy Alcove while there are 75 left to distribute.
Next year, Jeremy Alcoba, Carlos Tatay, Ryusei Yamanaka, Barry Baltus and probably Deniz Öncü are already guaranteed to race in the world championship: we can't wait!
