Moto3 Silverstone FP1: Sergio Garcia takes the lead ahead of Dennis Foggia

The Moto3 riders are the first to return to class after five weeks of vacation, and it's happening at Silverstone.

At the last meeting which was the Dutch TT, Ayumu Sasaki took his first victory in Moto3, becoming the third different Japanese rider to win in the category with Kaito Toba and Tatsuki Suzuki. Sasaki's victory was the fourth for Japan in Moto3, which moved to eighth place on the list of top-performing nations in the category, two behind Australia and Portugal. Spain leads with 92 victories ahead of Italy (46).

This is the first non-Spanish victory in Moto3 since Dennis Foggia in Indonesia earlier this year. Sasaki ended a streak of eight successive victories for Spain in this category. Izan Guevara finished at Assen second for his sixth consecutive podium, a streak that began with his victory at Jerez. This is the longest run of podiums for a Moto3 rider since Foggia won six in a row last year, from Austria to Emilia-Romagna. Emilia-Romagna. It was the eighth podium of Guevara in Moto3.

Sergio Garcia finished third for his seventh podium this season, which is already one more than last year. It was his 17th podium in Moto3 and he is now tied with Canet in ninth position on the list of riders with the most podiums in Moto3.

In the Netherlands, with Ayumu Sasaki (P1), Tatsuki suzuki (P4), Ryusei Yamanaka (P8) and Kaito Toba (P10), it was the first time that there were four Japanese riders in the top 10 of a Moto3 race.

None of the riders currently competing in Moto3 have previously won the British GP at Silverstone in the category. The eight Moto3 races at Silverstone were won by eight riders: Maverick Vinales (2012) louis salom (2013) Alex Rins (2014) Danny Kent (2015), Brad Binder (2016), Aron canet (2017) Marcos Ramirez (2019) et Roman Fenati (2021). Only three have won from pole: Casa Particular in Viñales (2012) Kidneys (2014) et fenati (2021).

Dennis Foggia is the only rider currently in Moto3 who has a podium at Silverstone in Moto3, third in 2021. KTM has only started from pole once at Silverstone since the introduction of Moto3, with Maverick Vinales in 2013. The Austrian manufacturer won twice: 2013 (Luis Salom) and 2016 (Brad Binder). Ivan Ortola will celebrate his 18th birthday on Thursday before the British GP.
