Young Spanish rider David Muñoz thought he had put the worst behind him after his horrific crash at the Hungarian Grand Prix. He was wrong. The IntactGP rider announced that he had to undergo further surgery to correct a 15-degree rotation of the radius in his left arm, a particularly rare complication reminiscent of the long ordeal suffered by Marc Marquez after his Jerez crash in 2020. This latest operation brings to eleven the number of surgeries Muñoz has undergone in just nine months.
Beyond the mere number of operations, it is primarily the nature of the injury that is concerning. After a fracture, a bone can sometimes heal with a slight rotation. In the case of a pilot MotoGP or Moto3, a few degrees are enough to profoundly alter the movements of the wrist, forearm and shoulder, with direct consequences on riding.
Marc Marquez he too had to undergo major surgery to correct a rotation of his right humerus, finally realigned by approximately 34 degrés after several years of suffering. An operation that had profoundly changed his way of flying.
David Muñoz finds itself facing the same type of problem today, although this time the injury concerns the radius of the left armThe Spanish driver himself announced the news on his social media. After several weeks of observation, I had to undergo further surgery to correct a 15° rotation of my left radius. »

The pelvis also remains a concern for David Muñoz
Muñoz took the opportunity to thank the doctor Angel CharterThe MotoGP medical director, as well as surgeon Daniel Cansino Muñoz-Repiso and their teams, for their support. The rider states that his recovery is progressing well.
« My recovery is going very well and I feel better every day. Now we need to do demonstrate patience and respect the planned schedule so that my pelvis can heal properly »
This latest procedure only addressed a portion of his injuries. During the spectacular accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix, David Muñoz had also suffered a serious pelvic fracture, already requiring several operations and forcing him to withdraw from the following Grand Prix, notably in Czech Republic and NetherlandsThe pilot is therefore undergoing a particularly demanding rehabilitation, for two major injuries simultaneously.
The case of David Muñoz This highlights a reality often overlooked by the general public. A fracture does not necessarily mark the end of treatment. When healing occurs with rotation, even limited, further surgery sometimes becomes necessary to regain mobility compatible with elite-level competition.
Marc Marquez is undoubtedly the most famous example. Despite several operations and a profoundly disrupted career, the Spaniard managed to return to the top. David Muñoz He now hopes to follow the same path. Just a few weeks after his accident, his priority is a full recovery before considering his return to competition.
