Three teams applied for 24th place on the 2017 MotoGP™ grid but the Selection Committee was forced to postpone its decision.

On March 21, teams already entered in the Grand Prix Road Racing World Championship were invited to apply for 24th place on the 2017 MotoGP™ grid. The deadline for submission of applications was set for March 29 April, the date on which the Selection Committee, made up of delegates from Dorna, the FIM and the IRTA, was to study the files.

Of the five teams that expressed interest, three have officially submitted an application. The Selection Committee studied the three cases and came to the conclusion that each of the three teams deserved and had the potential to bring something to the MotoGP™ category.

In parallel with these discussions, negotiations are taking place with the manufacturers to determine the possibility of providing an additional machine for the 24th registered. The conclusion of these discussions was that there was a reluctance on the part of existing manufacturers to commit to manufacturing the additional equipment available, at least for 2017.

It was therefore reluctantly decided to postpone the decision on awarding the additional entry until a later season.

Dorna, the FIM and the IRTA would like to thank the teams who submitted an application to them and apologize for the delay in the decision.
