While they usually assist drivers during competitions around the world, doctors from the “Clinica Mobile” are currently mobilized to help victims of the virus. Doctor Michele Zasa, who heads this care unit after taking over from Claudio Costa, explained how things were going in Italy, one of the four most affected countries in the world along with the United States, Spain and France.
It is in a video published by Motogp.com that Michele Zasa explains her situation as well as that of the Clinic staff.
“I'm currently in Italy because I'm at home here when I'm not working in the paddock. Since the end of February, I have been helping to deal with this difficult situation and we are being sent to serious cases. »
“The reason for our intervention could be anything, but in the last month, 95-99% of cases were people suffering from Covid-19 disease. »
“Most of the doctors at Clinica Mobile come from Italy and are therefore now used here. Part of the team takes care of emergencies, we have ten doctors and two radiologists who work in the Covid-19 departments. »
Fortunately, there is some good news, as Dr. Zasa explains: “I want to give you some hope because things have gotten a little better in the last five days. We have fewer cases and we hope this trend will show up in other countries soon. »
“At the same time we have the problem here in Italy and probably also in other countries that many people don't understand how serious the situation is. They go for a walk, run or meet. And the virus can therefore easily spread again. »
“The only thing we can do is ensure that the limited intensive care beds are not filled. The real fight therefore does not take place in hospitals, but in the streets and homes. People should try not to get infected, otherwise it will be difficult to help everyone because resources are limited. »
“Stay home and stay healthy. I hope we can get back on track soon and have some form of 2020 season. But we will only do that when it is safe again. It is important to get back to normal quickly, especially for us doctors. Because we have seen terrible things these days. »
