MotoGP, Luca Marini mentions that the sprint race generates demands: “we are going to ask to reduce the laps of certain races”

Luca Marini was not content with the usual banalities of team presentations, he also showed that he was a committed driver.

Luca marini went off the beaten track with Moto.it during the presentation of the troops VR46 ahead of the 2023 MotoGP season. This type of event is generally a moment of communication that is not disturbed with substantive questions concerning the paddock and the future of the discipline. A maneuver agreement that the half-brother of Valentino Rossi did not consider when speaking on two subjects that are close to his heart.

The first is the one concerning the minimum regulatory weight which does not take into account that of the rider. Luca Marini is 1m84 tall and weighs 68 kilos, which poses a problem in his sport: " if I train more and gain 2 or 3 kg of extra muscle mass , I have big problems because the motorcycle is slower and the tires are under more stress " he analyzes.

And he's convinced of it: " I think the smaller riders have an advantage. Because they can easily build muscle without worrying about weight. This will give them more energy for both races ," he said, referring to the sprint in the new format. " The extra race on Saturday will significantly increase the physical demands of a GP weekend . So I hope that in the future there will be minimum weight regulations to compensate for my disadvantage. However, I'll have this handicap throughout my career; I've made peace with it now ."

Luca Marini: “ we don't make enough money in my opinion and it gets worse every year for the drivers«

However, peace has apparently not yet been restored regarding the sprint event , now included in a meeting with the new format. Luca Marini addresses the issue as follows: " They told us, 'Okay drivers, it's the new format, you'll have the same money, more races, more fans for you, yeah, have fun!' We'll certainly have more fans, it's our job, our life, our sacrifices ."

He adds : " the MotoGP rider is 365 days a year, there is stress ". So, we’re apparently going to chat in the paddock… “ We will try to ask to reduce the laps of certain races although it's not a problem for me because I'm prepared and I feel good on the bike, but for other drivers it is a problem. Pour cette raison we will ask to reduce the turns, because we know that the most important thing is to have an improved show ».

Corn (Mais) Luca marini Don't stop thinking there. It goes further… “ We don't make enough money in my opinion and it gets worse every year for the drivers. And he ends: “ we need more support from Dorna, from the partners, but the best way is to make the show better for the fans, to have more money ". The world of Grands Prix is definitely at a crossroads. This 2023 season must be a success…
