MotoGP Czech Republic Brno: The schedule and a bit of history

It's a classy return to school that the Grand Prix paddock offers every year at the end of a summer break that began at the end of the last German Grand Prix. Four weeks later, the champions come together for an unmissable meeting like Assen, since this destination has been visited 49 times...

Hardly any other MotoGP venue can boast such a long history of motorcycle racing as the Czech city of Brno. Already in 1930, races took place there. At this time, the Ring Masaryk, a temporary circuit in the streets around the city, was used. The motorcycle world championship was invited during the 1965 season. The track was then around 29 kilometers long, but was shortened over time to a length of almost eleven kilometers. By the 1980s, however, the configuration was abandoned. Officials kept up with contemporary times and in 1985 began construction of a permanent racing circuit.

In 1987, the current route was opened under the name Brno Circuit. Since then, the course has been part of the championship calendar every year, with the exception of the 1992 season. Until 1991, the race was called the Czechoslovak Grand Prix, before the separation of the two states which named the event Grand Price of the Czech Republic.

Brno Automotodrom is an old-style natural track. The 5,403 kilometer route is beautifully integrated into the mountainous region. The height difference between the highest and lowest point of the track is more than 73 meters. 14 curves adorn it. Six times we go left, and eight curves lead to the right. There are also five other straights, on which drivers reach more than 310 km/h. We can therefore win the prize both with a motorcycle that has an engine and a machine that is easy to handle in the curves.

Due to the location of the course in the middle of the hilly landscape outside Brno, artificial stands are practically not necessary on the almost 5,5 kilometers, as the natural stands at the edge of the track provide an ideal panorama . The “Omega” passage is particularly popular among fans. You can watch the drivers in four corners and two straights.

On the program side, this time, there will be no MotoE... So back to a more classic program with, to start, the FP1 of Moto3, MotoGP and Moto2 which will be held on Friday from 9 a.m. Before all these sets move on to a second session, the technical managers of Honda, Suzuki et Aprilia will give a press conference during the lunch break, in order to take stock of this mid-season.
