While the championship MotoGP marks a pause before his next race at Brazil The roar of the premier class motorcycles hasn't completely died down. This week, it resonated once again on the Jerez-Ángel Nieto circuit , where private tests were taking place. Several manufacturers took advantage of this to continue the development of their prototypes in anticipation of future regulations.

One of the most active teams was KTM who had dispatched his testing team with Pol Espargaro et Dani Pedrosa at the handlebars. Both riders worked with the new motorcycle. 850 cm³ , the technical basis of the championship for years to come. According to initial estimates, this engine develops approximately 30 fewer horsepower than the current 1000cc engine.

This project isn't entirely new for the Austrian brand. KTM had already tested this motorcycle for the first time on this same circuit in December 2025 , although the prototype has evolved since then. One of the most visible changes is the reduction of certain aerodynamic elements , in accordance with future regulations which favour less aerodynamically extreme motorcycles.
Heinz Kinigadner, The brand advisor explained that the goal is to accumulate as many kilometers as possible as quickly as possible. He clarified that the idea is to test the motorcycle. "under different conditions and on as many circuits as possible"taking advantage of every opportunity to collect data during trials.

More manufacturers on track and first tests with Pirelli

KTM wasn't the only manufacturer present in Jerez. The test teams of Ducati , Aprilia et Yamaha Motor Company were also on site, with respectively Michele PirroLorenzo Savadori et Andrea Dovizioso .

In addition to working with the 850cc specifications, the riders have also begun testing tires Pirelli who will become the official supplier of the championship from the 2027 season.

The weather conditions were favorable during the tests, with magnificent weather in Andalusia, which contrasted with what had recently happened during the Superbike championship at theAlgarve International Speedway where the weather had complicated the work on the track.

Espargaró, commentator in Brazil

After finishing his performance on the track, Pol Espargaro won't be straying far from the paddock. The Catalan driver will be present at the next round of the championship in Brazil, but this time as a commentator to DAZN.

It's interesting to note that he also made a surprising statement off the record in recent days. During a Catalan television program, Pol and his brother Aleix Espargaro confided that they would prefer that none of their children become professional motorcycle racers , a statement that did not go unnoticed by fans.

Meanwhile, the championship continues and the development of future MotoGP bikes is taking place in parallel. Jerez was just another step in a process that will shape the technological future of the category for years to come.
