That's it ! For the first time since riding a MotoGP, Rookie Fabio Quartararo outperformed his more experienced teammate.
Oh certainly, almost nothing, barely a few hundredths of a second, and taking advantage of a fresher track during the first minutes of the morning while Franco Morbidelli had to roll up his sleeves to beat his time at the very end of the afternoon, but the result is there: confidence is visibly growing at El Diablo!
18th, 1,364 seconds behind the best time yesterday, the Petronas rider concluded this second day of the MotoGP test in Sepang in 14th position, 1,211 seconds behind the leader, after improving his best time by 8 tenths.
The Frenchman does not let himself be distracted and knows perfectly well what he still needs to do to progress: “I definitely feel much better than yesterday. We improved our time by almost a second compared to yesterday, so the second day at the Sepang International Circuit was very positive. This morning, we achieved good times with the new tires, and we took advantage of the track conditions to attack the time, which really satisfied me. I feel pretty good on the bike. We used new tires at the start of the day, and another at the end. It was better than the first and we were able to set regular times with a really good pace. So yes, I feel better. This afternoon we tried to improve but it was not possible. We worked a lot on the setup of the bike, especially when braking, where we managed to improve the sensations. This evening we will analyze the data and come back tomorrow to try to improve the time and make more progress in braking, which is the area where we have the most to improve.”
