Sometimes, motorcycle racing reminds us how violent it can be. FIM Europe recently announced the deaths of two courageous riders at the Brno circuit, during the Alpe Adria Central European Championship. Paddock-gp extends its deepest condolences to the families during this difficult time.
During one of Saturday's races, two drivers were involved in a horrific crash at the start. Sadly, neither survived. It was the Romanian Adrian Rus and the Austrian Philip Steinmayr, well known to endurance fans. He had already won the 24 Hours Motorcycles in the Superstock category and rode for the legendary Honda National Motos team as part of the FIM Endurance World Cup.
Here is the official statement from the FIM, which has also decided to cancel the competition in Brno for the rest of the weekend. "FIM Europe regrets to confirm that two riders lost their lives following an accident on Saturday during the Alpe Adria International Motorcycle Championship at the Automotodrom Brno. Despite the immediate intervention of emergency services, Philipp Steinmayr (Austria, August 13, 1993) died from his injuries. Adrian Rus (Romania, August 11, 1982) was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries." Following the accident, the organizers decided to cancel the entire remaining program for the weekend." it was indicated.
« Therefore, the scheduled races of the European Supersport 300, Supersport 600 and Superstock 1000 Cups, as well as the Women's European Championship, will not take place..
