The Milwaukee Aprilia rider fractured his pelvis when he fell from his RSV4 in Turn 6, on the fifth lap of the race at Buriram and was hit by Jordi Torres and his MV Agusta, who was unable to avoid the Irish.

He was taken to hospital with suspected injuries to his pelvis and back, and has since been confirmed to have a fractured pubis. He is expected to stay in Buriram hospital for several days before returning home, where he will have to rest for a few weeks.

He will miss the next races at Aragon, Assen and Imola (2 rounds each time) to make his return to Donington on May 26.

“I'm obviously very disappointed to have to miss some races so early in the season, but I consider myself lucky that my injuries are not worse.

“The initial fear of lying on the ground not being able to move my legs was something I had never felt before "Laverty told bikesportnews.com.

“I'm very lucky to have a fantastic group around me with my wife Pippa, my brother John who responded fantastically during the key hours after the accident, and the whole Milwaukee Aprilia team who joined me to the hospital to make sure I was in good hands.

“Due to my internal injuries I will be limited in the first month of my recovery, but after that we will be working hard to ensure my pelvis heals and I aim to return to racing at Donington Park. »
