While Ducati is already preparing for the post-2026 era with a significantly revamped roster, one decision might go almost unnoticed. Yet, it speaks volumes about the Italian manufacturer's current economic situation. According to several Spanish media outlets, Fermin Aldeguer will no longer be a direct Ducati employee from 2027. This measure does not jeopardize his future in MotoGP, but it reflects Borgo Panigale's desire to reduce certain costs in a more challenging environment.

Officially, Ducati has not confirmed anything. But according to Motorpasion Moto, alone Marc Marquez et Peter Acosta would retain a contract directly financed by the factory in 2027. The other drivers Ducati Players playing for satellite teams would no longer be paid by Borgo Panigale, but directly by their respective teams. In the case ofAldeguerThis would mean that VR46 would now take full responsibility for his salary.

This development comes as the group VolkswagenOwner Ducati via Audi, is pursuing a vast program to rationalize its spending.

For several months, several media outlets have been discussing strategic thinking around the group's assets, even fueling speculation about a possible sale of Ducati. Claudio Domenicali recently asserted that no concrete discussions were underway, while acknowledging that this type of decision belongs exclusively to the shareholder.

Ducati tightens the screw

In this context, reviewing the structure of satellite pilot contracts appears to be a relatively logical measure to limit costs without jeopardizing sporting competitiveness.

However, this decision should not be interpreted as a loss of confidence in AldeguerOn the contrary. The Spaniard remains considered one of the great hopes of DucatiEven though he didn't get the official handlebar ultimately awarded to Peter Acosta, his future still seems to be part of Borgo Panigale's plans.

In practice, he could continue to benefit from technical support very similar to that of a factory rider, despite a different contractual status. This new situation could even present certain advantages for AldeguerBy no longer being directly contractually bound to DucatiThe young Spaniard would have greater flexibility should an opportunity arise with another manufacturer. In a particularly active transfer market, this flexibility could become an asset.

For now, Aldeguer He must above all get back on track. Injured during free practice at Assenhe will miss the German Grand Prix, after already being forced to withdraw from the season opening in Thailand due to a fractured femur.

Despite these setbacks, the Spanish rookie currently occupies 10th place in the championship with 76 points, his best result remaining a second place at the Catalan Grand Prix.

If this contractual reorganization is confirmed, it would illustrate a new reality at Ducati : even within the team that still dominates MotoGP, cost control is now becoming as important a parameter as the pursuit of performance.
