Davide Brivio can be happy with the work accomplished at Suzuki. The Italian knew how to perfectly manage the budget allocated to him to satisfy his employers in the year in which they are celebrating the century of existence of the Hamamatsu brand. A well-distributed sum and all the more so since it is the fifth most important admitted among the six manufacturers entered in MotoGP. Congratulations are therefore in order. But every medal, even gold, has its downside. So, how can you defend the cause of a satellite team when almost everything has been won with just two bikes?

Davide Brivio will he be a victim of his success? Its 2020 results, with two Suzuki, is indeed almost too perfect. Judge for yourself: a World Champion driver title with Joan mir, eleven podiums in total, four of which were celebrated with both drivers. The manufacturer's title MotoGP was narrowly missed, with the only duo of GSX-RRs. The prize finally went to Ducati, with… six motorcycles in the running.

The managers are therefore happy. And certainly too much! Davide Brivio explains his situation on the team satellite file Suzuki : " from one point of view you might think it's not necessary because we won the title, but our engineers disagree ».

“Two pilots are not enough” to develop the Suzuki

The Italian therefore has at least a few allies in the store... He recalls: “ on the trail we feel we need more information. In some situations two drivers are not enough… As a factory team we would like to have a satellite team to obtain and share more information, but this project requires approval from top management ».

A decision that must be made within certain deadlines if we want to see the project come to fruition in 2022. And here is the roadmap: “ as the objective is to do so in 2022, we must decide at the beginning of 2021, let's say in March or April at the latest ". The countdown is now on.

We will recall that Suzuki has a new security investor with Monster, which has a strong link with Valentino Rossi whose VR46 colors will begin to appear in 2021 within an Avintia team which will welcome its half-brother Luca marini promoted from Moto2…
